How do I know these dealers are legitimate?

Every dealer on the site is a licensed North Carolina dealership. We verify dealer licenses before activation. That said, do your own due diligence before buying any used car:

  • Pull a vehicle history report (Carfax or AutoCheck) - if the dealer won't provide one, that's a red flag
  • Have your own mechanic inspect the vehicle before you commit
  • Test drive it on the kind of roads you actually use - if your commute climbs I-40 through the mountains or runs US-74 through the foothills, get it on a grade and see how it handles elevation changes
  • Ask about the warranty in writing, not just verbally
  • North Carolina requires a $30 annual safety inspection - ask to see a current one

Should I look for AWD or 4WD for mountain driving?

It depends on where you live and how you drive. If you're in Boone at 3,300 feet or regularly cross mountain passes in winter, AWD or 4WD makes a real difference on icy grades. Asheville at 2,100 feet and the Catawba Valley around Hickory see less snow, and front-wheel drive with good tires handles most conditions there. The elevation swings across the 828 range from about 800 feet in the foothills to over 6,000 feet at the highest peaks - what works in Hendersonville may not be enough for a January commute up to Beech Mountain.
